Step 1 Choose a suitable topic 选择合适主题
主题不宜过大、过泛，话题要具体，适合用例子加以说明。
合适：Learning is a lifelong process
不合适：Education（话题太宏大）
Step 2 Write a clear thesis statement 确立清晰的中心论点
Thesis statement（中心论点）放在引言段；
是全文概括性观点，整篇文章所有例子都要用来支撑它；
不能是事实，应当是可被例子证明的观点。
Unit1 课文 thesis：Learning is a lifelong process.
Step 3 Collect and select examples 收集并筛选例子
从三大来源收集例子：personal experience、observed examples、knowledge from reading；
根据选例四原则筛选例子：relevance 相关性、typicality 典型性、sufficiency 充分性、variety 多样性；
确定用多个简例 (brief examples) 还是一个详例 (extended example)。
Step 4 Organize the essay 组织篇章结构
采用总‑分‑总结构：introduction‑body‑conclusion
Introduction：引出话题，摆出 thesis statement；
Body：摆出例子，配合过渡信号词；例子之后要有简单分析，把例子和论点联系；
Conclusion：重申主旨，总结全文，不要添加新例子、新观点。
Step 5 Write the first draft 写初稿
恰当使用例证信号词：for example, for instance, such as, take…for example, a case in point, to illustrate。
Step 6 Revise and polish 修改润色
检查：
①例子是否紧扣中心论点；
②例子是否典型充分；
③过渡是否自然；
④有无语法、拼写错误。
